About / Contact

I grew up around airplanes in Alaska; my dad was an A&P mechanic and avionics technician. I came to Minnesota for college, where I met the girl who became my wife. After school I decided to pursue my pilot’s certificate, something I’d had in the back of my mind for quite some time (I remember writing a journal entry about wanting to fly in elementary school).  I completed my training in 2007 and rented locally for a few years.  My airplane first flew in August 2012, and as of summer 2017, I’ve flown about 280 hours in it.

I am a relatively young builder, having started this project at 23.  Aside from building and flying airplanes, I’ve dabbled in construction & remodeling on the properties we’ve owned, including the bottom-to-top build of our current home. I earn my living as a broadcast engineer, and do a bit of freelance work in that area as well.

Feel free to email me with questions, comments, requests, or just to chat about building & flying.  You can also find me on Twitter @KL1PV.

What oil cooler did you go with. Smaller one from vans or larger one. Thanks. Neil

Neil — I have the Stewart Warner 8406R, which IIRC is about the same size as the one Vans sells, but is claimed to have a higher capacity. I’ve had no problem whatsoever with oil temps.
